For the Next Generation of Small Business Owners, It’s not About “Me” it’s About “Us”

May 3, 2019

Just in time for National Small Business Week, HP Inc. released the results of a global study that highlights the shifting values of small business owners across generations. Surveying more than 4,300 small business owners across the globe, the HP Small Business Today Study finds that with each new generation of small business owners the importance of driving positive change grows.

Highlights include:

  • More than half of small business owners globally want to fill the gaps left by the government when it comes to the environment and their employees
  • Gen Z small business owners are 1.5 times more likely than Baby Boomers to be motivated to build a business that helps solve a societal or environmental issue
  • 86 percent of Gen Z report they’ve had to make a sacrifice of some kind for the success of their small business
  • Nearly nine in 10 Gen Z small business owners globally reported facing challenges like lack of sleep, lack of motivation and lack of support, the highest of all generations
